Stifado is one of the most traditional ways of cooking in Greece: meat or seafood slow-cooked with plenty of small pearl onions and red wine. Made with octopus, it is a dish that tastes of both the sea and home.

The secret is time

Octopus needs slow cooking to become tender. It simmers gently with the wine and the onions, which caramelize and create a sweet, rich sauce.

Octopus stifado at Alysso

At Alysso we serve it as a starter for the table: octopus slow-cooked in red wine with pearl onions. It is wonderful with some bread for the sauce and a glass of tsipouro or ouzo.

If you love seafood, pair it with our mussels steamed with ouzo or the marinated anchovies with fava.

You will find us in Psyrri, at Navarchou Apostoli 11, a few minutes from Monastiraki, every day from 1 pm to midnight. See our full menu.
